The Brown pelicans had quite a crazy year here in Monterey Bay! They started the year this spring with massive standings, with many sick and starving pelicans needing to be rescued, rehabbed and released! Through the summer and fall, we saw the local Pelican population rebound and feed nonstop for several months in the harbor thanks to an abundance of millions of anchovies! It was a wonderful sight to witness these iconic and beloved species doing so well after starting off the year in a rough way.
